Ingredients

Scale

9 cups Rice Chex cereal

1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

3/4 cup creamy peanut butter

1/4 cup unsalted butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups powdered sugar

4 full-size Butterfinger candy bars, crushed

1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)

1/2 cup peanut butter chips (optional)

1/4 cup chopped roasted peanuts (optional)

1 teaspoon flaky sea salt (optional)

Instructions

1. Line a large baking sheet or countertop with parchment paper and place the cereal into a large mixing bowl.

2. Crush the Butterfinger candy bars into small chunks and crumbs using a rolling pin or heavy spoon.

3. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter.

4. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until smooth and fully melted.

5. Stir the vanilla extract into the melted chocolate mixture.

6. Pour the chocolate mixture over the cereal and gently fold until evenly coated.

7. Let the coated cereal cool for 2 to 3 minutes.

8. Transfer half of the cereal mixture into a large zip-top bag or airtight container.

9. Add half of the powdered sugar and shake until fully coated.

10. Repeat with the remaining cereal and powdered sugar.

11. Spread the puppy chow onto the prepared baking sheet.

12. Sprinkle the crushed Butterfinger pieces over the mixture and gently toss.

13. Add optional mini chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, or peanuts if desired.

14. Allow the puppy chow to cool completely before serving.

15. Serve immediately or chill for 15 to 20 minutes for extra crunch.

Notes

Allow the cereal mixture to cool slightly before adding powdered sugar so the coating stays light and fluffy instead of sticky.

Use traditional creamy peanut butter rather than natural peanut butter for the smoothest chocolate coating.

Store the puppy chow in an airtight container to maintain maximum crunch and freshness.
