Ingredients

Scale

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

1/2 cup strawberry or raspberry jam

1/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

1. In a bowl, whisk together flour and salt.

2. In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

3. Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing until smooth.

4. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.

5. Divide dough, wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.

6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

7. Roll out dough to 1/8-inch thickness on a floured surface.

8. Cut heart shapes, creating cut-outs in half of them.

9. Place cookies on lined baking sheets.

10. Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.

11. Cool completely on a rack.

12. Spread jam on solid cookies.

13. Top with cut-out cookies and press gently.

14. Dust with powdered sugar and serve.

Notes

Chill the dough well to maintain the cookie shape during baking.

Use thick jam to avoid leaking and messy assembly.

Dust powdered sugar just before serving for the best presentation.
