2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 tablespoon red food coloring
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1/4 cup buttermilk
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
2. Melt the butter and allow it to cool slightly.
3. Whisk the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until glossy and smooth.
4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
5. Mix in the red food coloring and white vinegar until evenly combined.
6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
7. Slowly fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
8. Add the buttermilk and gently stir until the batter becomes smooth and thick.
9. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
10. In another bowl, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
11. Spread most of the brownie batter into the prepared pan.
12. Add spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the batter.
13. Drop the remaining brownie batter on top and swirl gently using a knife.
14. Bake for 30 to 38 minutes or until the edges are set and the center is slightly soft.
15. Allow the brownies to cool completely before slicing into squares.
Notes
Do not overbake the brownies or they will lose their fudgy texture.
Chill the brownies before slicing for cleaner and sharper edges.
Use gel food coloring for the most vibrant red velvet appearance.
