Ingredients

Scale

2 large Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, sliced into 8 wedges each)

2 (8-ounce) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough

1 cup unsalted butter

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup lemon-lime soda (such as Sprite or 7UP)

Pinch of salt

Optional: additional cinnamon sugar for sprinkling on top

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Peel, core, and slice each apple into 8 wedges, then pat dry.

3. Unroll crescent dough and wrap each apple wedge starting from the wide end, sealing tightly.

4. Place wrapped apple dumplings seam-side down in the baking dish.

5. In a saucepan, melt the butter, then stir in sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and vanilla until blended.

6. Pour the butter mixture evenly over the dumplings.

7. Pour the soda around the dumplings—not on top—to create syrup during baking.

8. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.

9. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving.

10. Serve warm with ice cream or a drizzle of the syrup from the pan.

Notes

Brown the butter slightly before adding the sugar for a deeper, nutty flavor.

Don’t pour soda directly over the dumplings—pour it around the sides for better texture.

For a flavor twist, try using pears or adding a dash of clove or allspice.
