Description

Crab Rangoon Crunch Cups are golden, crispy wonton cups filled with a creamy blend of crab meat, cream cheese, mozzarella, and aromatic seasonings topped with sweet chili sauce. These elegant bites combine the beloved flavors of the classic appetizer in an easy-to-eat, handheld format that’s perfect for entertaining. These cups are ideal for parties, game day gatherings, or impressing dinner guests without spending hours in the kitchen. Make them ahead and fill just before serving, or prepare them completely fresh for maximum crispiness and flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 24 wonton wrappers, thawed if frozen
  • 225 g cooked crab meat, drained well and flaked
  • 200 g cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 60 g sour cream, for tanginess and moisture
  • 100 g shredded mozzarella, for extra richness
  • 2 green onions, sliced thinly
  • 1 garlic clove, minced finely
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce, or tamari for gluten-free
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice, fresh squeezed preferred
  • 2 teaspoons oil, for brushing the wrappers
  • Optional ingredients, sweet chili sauce for topping, sesame seeds or furikake for garnish, red pepper flakes for spice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare the wrappers: Brush both sides of each wonton wrapper lightly with oil, then gently press each wrapper into the cup of a muffin tin to form a cup shape.
  3. Bake the cups: Bake for 12-15 minutes until the wrappers are golden brown and crispy, watching carefully to prevent over-browning.
  4. Cool completely: Remove from the oven and allow the cups to cool in the muffin tin for 5 minutes before carefully removing them to a wire rack.
  5. Combine the base: In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese and sour cream together until smooth and well combined, about 1-2 minutes of stirring.
  6. Add the crab and seasonings: Fold in the flaked crab meat, minced garlic, soy sauce, lemon juice, and green onions until everything is evenly distributed throughout the filling.
  7. Fold in the cheese: Gently fold in the shredded mozzarella, being careful not to overmix and crush the delicate crab meat.
  8. Taste and adjust: Sample a small amount and add more soy sauce or lemon juice if desired for your preferred flavor balance.
  9. Fill the cups: Spoon the crab filling into each crispy wonton cup, filling them generously but not overflowing.
  10. Add the dip: Drizzle or spoon a small amount of sweet chili sauce on top of each filled cup for a pop of color and sweet-spicy flavor.
  11. Garnish: Top with a sprinkle of sesame seeds or additional green onions if desired for an elegant finishing touch.
  12. Serve immediately: Arrange the cups on a serving platter and enjoy them fresh while the wonton shells maintain their satisfying crunch.
