- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)
- 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp olive oil (if using lean beef)
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 sesame seed burger buns, toasted
- 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
- Fresh green leaf lettuce (optional)
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add olive oil if needed, then sauté chopped onions for 3-4 minutes until soft.
- Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Reduce heat to low. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire, Dijon, brown sugar, vinegar, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens.
- Toast buns while beef simmers.
- Assemble: add lettuce to bun, spoon on beef mixture, top with cheddar cheese slice, and cover with top bun.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
