Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak (or sirloin), thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for the sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef: In a bowl, combine sliced flank steak with 2 tablespoons soy sauce and 1 teaspoon cornstarch. Toss to coat and let it marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. Prepare the vegetables: While the beef is marinating, chop broccoli into florets, slice the bell pepper, mince the garlic, and grate the ginger.
  3. Cook the beef: Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat. Cook the beef in batches, searing each batch for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
  4. Stir fry the vegetables: In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed. Add garlic and ginger, stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add broccoli and bell pepper, stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp.
  5. Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together 3 tablespoons soy sauce, 2 tablespoons oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, and 1 tablespoon cornstarch.
  6. Combine everything: Add the beef back to the pan with the vegetables. Pour in the sauce and toss everything together until well coated. Stir fry for another 2 minutes.
  7. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with sesame seeds (optional) and serve hot over rice, noodles, or your favorite side.
