Soft and Buttery Spritz Cookies

  • Author: Sally Thompson
  • Total Time: 5 minute
  • Yield: 40-50 cookies 1x

Description

These soft and buttery spritz cookies are a classic treat perfect for any occasion. Made with simple ingredients, these tender cookies are pressed into beautiful shapes and topped with colorful sprinkles for a festive touch. Whether you’re baking for the holidays, a party, or just a cozy afternoon, these cookies are as delightful to make as they are to eat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (2 sticks)
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or almond extract for variation)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Sprinkles or nonpareils for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper or leaving them ungreased.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
  4. Gradually incorporate the sifted flour and salt, mixing on low speed until the dough is soft and smooth.
  5. Transfer the dough to a cookie press fitted with your desired design plate. Press the cookies directly onto the baking sheets, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
  6. Decorate the cookies with sprinkles or nonpareils as desired.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set and just beginning to turn golden.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a flavor variation, substitute almond or lemon extract for the vanilla.
  • Chill the dough for 10-15 minutes if it’s too soft to hold its shape.
  • To freeze, place baked cookies in a single layer on a tray, then transfer to a freezer-safe container or bag once frozen.
