Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

For the Butter Glaze:

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

For the Salted Caramel Drizzle:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch deep round pan or Bundt pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another large bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy (3-5 minutes).
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix just until combined.
  6. Pour batter into pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. While cake is baking, prepare butter glaze: melt sugar, butter, water, and vanilla in a saucepan (do not boil).
  9. Once cake is out of the oven, poke holes all over the top and slowly pour warm glaze over the cake. Let sit 10-15 minutes.
  10. Let cake cool completely before removing from pan.
  11. To make caramel: In a saucepan, melt sugar over medium heat until amber. Add butter, stir until melted, then add cream and sea salt. Simmer 1-2 minutes.
  12. Drizzle cooled caramel over the cake before serving.
