Topped with powdered sugar and fresh strawberries, it’s an irresistible treat that’s perfect for any special occasion or lazy weekend morning.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of brioche or challah bread, sliced
- 1 cup Nutella (or more, as desired)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk (or substitute half-and-half for extra creaminess)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar, for garnish
- Fresh strawberries, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- Slice the bread into thick cubes or strips. Spread a generous layer of Nutella on one side of each slice. Arrange the Nutella-covered bread in the baking dish, overlapping slightly.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes, or refrigerate overnight if preparing in advance.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar and garnish with fresh strawberries if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
- For best results, use slightly stale bread to prevent sogginess.
- Add chopped hazelnuts or almonds for extra crunch.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven before serving.
