Ingredients
4 large egg whites
200 g granulated sugar
0.25 tsp cream of tartar
0.5 tsp vanilla extract
Green gel food coloring
Assorted holiday sprinkles
Gold star sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 200°F (93°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper. Prepare a piping bag with a star tip.
2. In a grease-free bowl, beat egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
3. Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff, glossy peaks form.
4. Mix in vanilla extract and green gel coloring until evenly tinted.
5. Transfer to piping bag and pipe tree shapes onto baking sheets. Decorate with sprinkles.
6. Bake for 1.5 hours. Turn off oven, crack door open, and let meringues cool inside for 1 more hour.
7. Once cooled, remove and store in an airtight container.
Notes
Always use room-temperature egg whites to maximize volume and stability.
Avoid any trace of grease or egg yolk in the bowl to ensure the meringue whips properly.
Let the cookies cool in the oven with the door ajar to avoid cracks from temperature shock.
