Ingredients

Scale

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

0.75 cup powdered sugar

0.5 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

0.25 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

2 cups all-purpose flour

0.5 teaspoon baking powder

0.25 teaspoon salt

0.25 cup cornstarch

holiday-themed sprinkles

optional coarse sanding sugar

Instructions

1. In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter until smooth and creamy.

2. Add powdered sugar and granulated sugar, beating until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).

3. Mix in vanilla extract and optional almond extract.

4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cornstarch.

5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture. Mix just until combined.

6. Scoop dough using a cookie scoop and roll into balls. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet.

7. Slightly flatten each dough ball and press sprinkles and sanding sugar on top.

8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.

9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Cornstarch adds the delicate, soft texture that makes these cookies melt in your mouth.

Almond extract elevates the holiday flavor but is completely optional.

Don’t overbake—the cookies should stay light in color to retain their tender texture.
