Description

Hamburger Steaks are a flavorful and satisfying meal made with juicy ground beef patties, savory brown gravy, and caramelized onions. This comfort food is perfect for any occasion and pairs wonderfully with mashed potatoes, rice, or roasted vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Form the ground beef into 4 thick patties, seasoning generously with salt, pepper, and thyme.
  2. Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 10-15 minutes until golden brown and caramelized.
  3. In a separate pan, heat more butter and oil over medium heat. Brown the beef patties for 4-6 minutes per side until cooked to your desired doneness.
  4. In the skillet with the onions, add flour and stir for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
  5. Slowly add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens.
  6. Return the beef patties to the skillet and top with caramelized onions. Simmer for 5-10 minutes until the gravy is thick and flavorful.
  7. Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite sides.
