Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 preferred)
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp butter or oil (for searing and sautéing)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix gently just until combined and form into 4 oval-shaped patties.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter or oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add remaining butter/oil and sliced onions. Cook over medium heat for 10–12 minutes until softened and golden.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir for 1 minute to cook out the raw taste.
  6. Slowly pour in beef broth, stirring constantly, and simmer until slightly thickened.
  7. Return patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer on low for 15–20 minutes.
  8. Garnish with parsley and serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
