- 12 lasagna noodles (traditional or oven-ready)
- 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 (15 oz) container ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess grease.
- Add chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
- If using traditional noodles, cook according to package instructions and drain. If using oven-ready noodles, skip this step.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and parsley until smooth.
- In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce. Layer with lasagna noodles, ricotta mixture, more sauce, and a sprinkle of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers, ending with cheese on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbly.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve.
