Ingredients

Scale

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 1/4 cups granulated sugar

1/4 cup light brown sugar

1 large egg

1/4 cup eggnog

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Extra granulated sugar for rolling

Cinnamon sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, salt, and nutmeg.

3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.

4. Add in the egg, eggnog, and vanilla extract. Mix until well incorporated.

5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until no flour streaks remain.

6. Scoop the dough using a tablespoon or cookie scoop and roll each ball in granulated sugar. Optionally, sprinkle tops with cinnamon sugar.

7. Place on baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.

8. Bake for 9–11 minutes, or until edges are just set and tops appear slightly cracked.

9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

10. Serve warm or let cool completely before storing.

Notes

Slightly underbake the cookies for a soft, tender center — they’ll continue setting as they cool.

Add festive variation with white chocolate chips or a drizzle of eggnog glaze.

To freeze, portion and freeze the dough or baked cookies for up to 2 months.
