Buttery, melt-in-your-mouth spritz cookies are a holiday favorite! These crisp yet tender cookies are made with simple ingredients and shaped using a cookie press for festive designs. Perfect for cookie platters, gifts, or just a sweet treat, these cookies are easy to customize with different colors and decorations.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract (or almond extract)
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles or sanding sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Do not grease or line baking sheets.
  2. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. If using food coloring, divide the dough and mix in desired colors.
  6. Fill a cookie press with dough and press cookies onto an ungreased baking sheet. Decorate with sprinkles if desired.
  7. Bake for 6-8 minutes, until the edges are just set but not browned.
  8. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
