Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar, Gruyère, mozzarella, or a mix)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- Fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and milk over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the butter is fully melted and the mixture begins to simmer. Remove from heat.
- Add the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and baking powder to the saucepan. Stir vigorously until the mixture forms a dough.
- Allow the dough to cool for a minute or two. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth and shiny.
- Stir in the grated cheese until evenly distributed.
- Using a spoon or piping bag, drop spoonfuls of dough (about 1 1/2 inches in diameter) onto the prepared baking sheet. Leave space between each puff.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed. The puffs should be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
- Allow them to cool slightly before serving warm.
