Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups semisweet or milk chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup chopped toasted almonds (or nuts of choice)
- Flaky sea salt, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Pan:
Line a 9×13-inch baking dish or rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Set aside. -
Melt Butter and Sugar:
In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine butter, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until butter melts and mixture combines. -
Cook to Hard Crack Stage:
Bring to a steady boil, continuing to stir. Cook until the mixture reaches 290°F to 300°F on a candy thermometer and turns deep golden brown (about 10-15 minutes). -
Add Vanilla and Pour:
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Quickly pour the toffee onto the prepared pan and spread evenly. -
Add Chocolate:
After 1-2 minutes, sprinkle chocolate chips over hot toffee. Let sit 2 minutes, then spread melted chocolate evenly. -
Top with Nuts:
Sprinkle chopped toasted nuts over the chocolate. Add flaky sea salt if desired. -
Cool and Break:
Allow toffee to cool completely (refrigerate for 30-45 minutes for quicker results). Break into pieces and enjoy!
